Impossibly inviting hallways that are practical & stylish

Whether your home has an oversized foyer or more of a ‘cozy nook’, there’s something to be said for making an entrance. A welcoming hallway not only makes your home more inviting to guests, but the right furniture and accessories can pack a lot of function in this area too. You only get one chance at a first impression, so make it a good one with these entranceway styling tips.

Statement storage

Contemporary storage can add as much style to your entrance as your art and decor.

Our Stacked Storage system can be wall mounted, stacked as shelving or even used as side tables. Plus, they come with a door option – handy for hiding unsightly items such as kids’ shoes.

Coat hooks are also a must. With its contrasting round and square forms and variety of colourways, Muuto's Attach Coat Hook is ideal in a contemporary home. Another Muuto icon, The Dots hooks look fun and offer a spot to hang handbags, coats, umbrellas and hats. A storage basket is another essential for every home and we love Restore Baskets, which are made from highly durable, yet soft PET felt (from recycled plastic bottles) and are available in three sizes.

Sideboards are also ideal for more generous hallways or entranceways.

Lighten, brighten and expand

Surprisingly, a large light fixture can make a room feel larger and taller than what it is. If your hallway is on the small side, consider a bold pendant or contemporary chandelier to light the room and give the illusion of a more grand scale. Our Fluid Pendant lamp’s soft round shape is inspired by a resting drop of water and looks stunning in clusters of different sizes, while its frosted matte glass delivers a warm cosy ambience.

You can also expand a small space with a large mirror on the wall. The Ned Mirror is simple and timeless with its circular black frame and the Framed Mirror below is ideal for checking that you’re good to go as you head out the door.

A place to perch

You’re not likely to curl up in the hallway to read a book, but don’t underestimate how often a bench seat, chair or small bench will be used in this space; it’s the ideal place to pop off your shoes when you enter the home. For those with the luxury of space, we stock a variety of bench styles, but if a single chair is more suited to your needs, we also have an expansive range from classic wood to contemporary moulded plastic.

Give green a chance

A fresh bunch of flowers or several plants add instant life (and help to clean the air) in your home. Even if you have a tiny entranceway, consider adding a small plant or three (odd numbers look better). If you’re not blessed with a green thumb, go for super low-maintenance plants such as the Snake Plant, a Peace Lily and Swiss Cheese Plants. If you have an abundance of space, go larger with an oversized vase and fresh flowers on a sideboard, or opt for our Ferm Living Rectangular Plant Box in powder coated grey or black metal – it’s stunning in a modern home or apartment.

Sleek space savers

Squeezing storage into a small space isn’t always easy. That’s where our Tip Toe Rack comes into its own. It doubles as both a shelf for decorative items (or things you need as you’re heading out the door) as well as a clothing rack to hang your coat. Simple yet functional, these racks can be mounted two ways and are available in two sizes for the best fit for your space.
